I walked in through Swissôtel The Stamford expecting just another hotel buffet situation, but the way the light hits CLOVE actually caught me off guard a bit.

What It Feels Like Inside

You don’t just “enter” CLOVE, you kind of drift into it after coming up from the lobby. The transition from the hotel ground floor to Level 2 already feels calmer, and once you step into the restaurant, the space opens up in a way that’s hard to ignore.

It was daytime when I went, and the first thing I noticed was how the natural light just spills in through those high glass ceilings. It doesn’t feel dark or cramped like some hotel buffets. Instead, there’s this constant soft daylight bouncing off the wooden finishes, which makes everything feel more open without trying too hard.

Crowd wise, it was a mix. I saw families with kids moving around pretty freely, some office groups chatting over plates, and a few couples just taking their time. It’s not a quiet fine dining space, but it doesn’t feel chaotic either. More like controlled busyness.

Seating is actually comfortable enough. Tables aren’t squeezed too close together, so you’re not hearing every single conversation from the next table. I could sit back without feeling like I needed to rush.

Honestly though, most of the legs were easy to open by hand once you got a grip. The meat is thick, firm, and comes out in clean chunks instead of shredding everywhere. The Salmon sashimi is the standout, but there were also other cuts in rotation like leaner slices that balanced it out. It’s not just one-note. The oysters were fresh and briny, but I won’t pretend they were all plump. Some were a bit small. I hit mine with lemon and a bit of Tabasco and that fixed the mood pretty quickly.

Prawns deserve a mention too. They were already peeled in some trays and whole in others. Either way, they came off the shell easily without that annoying sticky struggle you sometimes get at buffets. There were also mussels on ice, simple but clean in taste.

Mud Crab & That Famous Laksa

This is where things start getting messy in a good way.

The mud crab felt softer and sweeter compared to the black pepper crab, which had a stronger kick. The black pepper sauce wasn’t crazy spicy, but it had that sharp heat that builds slowly. I ended up pairing it with rice more than anything else because the sauce just works better that way than eating it alone.

The laksa station was basically always busy. I stood in line for a bit and you can smell it before you even reach the counter. The broth is thick, creamy, and slightly spicy, and they load it with prawns, tofu puffs, and fish cake. It’s not a light soup at all, it’s the kind you commit to once you start.

The pumpkin lobster soup was the surprise in this section. Smooth, slightly sweet, and very soft in texture. It’s not heavy like cream-based soups, more like something you sip slowly between heavier plates.

The Surprises: Aquaponics Greens & Melted Cheese

I’m usually not one for the salad bar at a buffet, but this one actually stood out. The greens are grown in the hotel’s own aquaponics farm, which sounds like marketing until you actually taste it. The lettuce and leaves are crisp, not soggy or tired. I kept it simple with light dressing, nothing too heavy, just enough to keep it fresh.

Then there’s the Swiss raclette station. This is basically a cheese wheel being melted and scraped right in front of you. The visual alone is fun to watch, but what really gets you is how heavy it is once it lands on your plate.

It’s usually poured over potatoes, pickles, and onions. The mix of hot melted cheese with the cold crunch of pickles is what makes it addictive, but also why you can’t eat too much of it without slowing down completely.

Dessert Worth Sticking Around For

I didn’t expect dessert to be memorable, but the pistachio gelato changed that. It’s smooth, cold, and actually has that nutty depth instead of just being sweet green cream. I didn’t notice big nut chunks, but the flavour feels real, not artificial.

The Swiss chocolate cake sits somewhere between fudge and sponge. It’s dense but still soft when you cut into it, not dry at all. It’s the kind of cake you take a small slice of and somehow still go back for another.

There were mini cakes lined up neatly, nothing too fancy, but visually clean with different colours on display. Dragon fruit and papaya added a fresh pop of colour on the fruit side, which actually helped reset the palate after all the crab and cheese.

I had coffee after dessert, nothing fancy, just a simple cup that does the job of rounding things off.

Service & Hospitality

The staff were quick without hovering. Plates didn’t sit around long, which matters more than people think when you’re going back and forth between stations.

I did notice a birthday moment while I was there. A small cake was brought out quietly, and the team came together briefly to sing before stepping back. It wasn’t overdone, just a simple gesture that still felt personal.

I also saw how the floor team kept the buffet areas clean and restocked. It never felt like things were running empty or messy, even during peak crowd movement.

Final Take: Worth It or Not?

Let’s talk money because that changes the whole experience.

Lunch is around $80 (Mon to Sat), dinner is about $98 (Mon to Thu), and weekends go up to roughly $130. That’s the base.

But here’s the real thing. If you’ve got OCBC, DBS/POSB, or Citibank, there is a 30% discount valid till 30 June 2026 (AMEX has a variant discount), which basically turns this into a completely different deal.

Parking at Raffles City Shopping Centre is where things get annoying. It’s expensive, and the layout can be confusing if you don’t go there often. No free parking perks from the restaurant either, so I wouldn’t bother driving.

MRT is way easier. Just stop at City Hall, walk through Raffles City Shopping Centre, and you’re basically there in a few minutes without the stress.

The Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

I’d give it a solid 8.8/10.

Not perfect, but the kind of place I’d actually return to when I want seafood without overthinking it.

I’d recommend it for family dinners, birthday meals, and casual group meet ups where everyone just wants variety and doesn’t want to argue over what to eat.
